Flatten it Out

As much as I love heels, there are many times in my life when flats are just much more realistic. But a good flat can be just as fab as a pump or pair of boots.

This is my personal taste, but I find the shape of flats to be a lot less versatile than that of heels. Translation: I like heels to be rounded toe, and find both peep toe and pointy toe flats to be really awkward. I've never seen a square toe flat, but I'm sure that wouldn't look too hot either. I also tend to shy away from kitten heels.

And it may just be the short girl complex, but I find that kitten heels, which look and sound like heels but give minimal lift, tend to spark the reaction of "she's wearing heels and is still that short?!"

But for any girl, short or tall, I think flats are a perfect choice for occasions like shopping trips, park visits, or honestly any normal day. You can never go wrong with a fabulous statement flat.

Shopping Spree: Nine West

For years now, I have considered Nine West to be one of my favorite place to get shoes. Though not where one might find a bold statement shoe, Nine West always seems to have the newest styles done in the classiest and most wearable ways. I peeked around around the site a bit to see what's out West, and here's the best in show:

Summer Barbecue

For Memorial Day, my family and I are heading over to a friend's house for a barbecue. For the event, I've chosen to wear a floral dress by Pins and Needles that i got at Urban Outfitters (see below), one of my favorite pieces, with a thin yellow belt from J. Crew. Not to mention, of course, my beloved pair of Ray Bans.

There are a lot of different footwear options that one could choose from for a summer barbecue floral frock like this one, so I decided to experiment with some of them.

Flats from Urban, Sneakers by Keds, Sandals by Diane von Furstenberg, Pumps by Nine West, Bag from FredFlare, Photoa by my sister, Arden.

In the end, I decided to go with the DVF sandals.

The Keds were too casual, and for more of a walking around, activity day. The pumps were too dressy, and are a pain to traipse around the grass in. The flats I adore, but they are brutally uncomfortable and what Oprah calls "sitting shoes"- shoes meant to be worn on days with minimal walking. This did not quite fit the queue.

The DVF sandals are pretty, comfortable, and somewhere between casual and dressy. All in all, the perfect choice. Have a wonderful Memorial Day, everybody!

Sex and the City Shoes

Tonight, I went with my family and my friend Becca to see Sex and the City 2- we all absolutely adore the TV show, and have faithfully kept track of the movie interpretations. Although I didn't love the movie itself (hey guys, you forgot a substantive plot!), the shoes were, as per usual, not to be ignored.

If I had to pick favorites, I'd probably choose all the Louboutins and the studded Brian Atwoods. I think the top pair of Louboutins is just so unique and urban, and possesses the crazy yet fabulous essence to it that defines Carrie's character. The bedazzled cream pumps are, in one word, fabulous. Debating wearing those to my wedding- it would certainly make things more interesting, and I've always said I'll spend more money on the ring and the shoes than the dress and the event.

The pair with the pink, gold, and off-white wrapping is a beautiful, more elegant pair that, not surprisingly, Charlotte wears in the film. I think they're fun, classy, and exciting all at once, which is quite the feat. Sigh, the blue satin pumps. Those are absolutely to die for, there are no words. Finally, the Brian Atwoods. That is one hot shoe, and the muted color with the bold studding is a really nice contrast that makes the shoe stunning.

Carrie and the girls have done it again.

Welcome!

Hey all!

Recently, I've been noticing a lot of friends of mine taking to blogging, mainly fashion blogging, and I wanted to join the fun. But instead of taking on all fashion in general, I decided to spotlight something a little closer to my heart- shoes. Shoes have always been one of my favorite parts of an outfit, and I have been flitting around in my mother's (and my own!) heels since I could walk.

But who am I, exactly? Well, my name is Remy, and I'm a dancing, writing, over achieving suburban girl who has always dreamed of living in the city. I follow JakeandAmir religiously, I adore Chelsea Handler, Community is the most charming show on television, and I could survive on a diet of cheese and seltzer. Justin Timberlake, John Mayer, James Taylor, and the Black Eyed Peas are the best, and as are Jake Gyllenhaal, J.K. Rowling, and Tennessee Williams. When I was a little girl, I dreamed of dancing on Broadway; now, I dream of writing for the New Yorker.

Oh, and I love shoes.
